Peoria is the largest city on the Illinois River and the county seat of Peoria County, Illinois, in the United States. It is named after the Peoria tribe.

Peoria has significantly expanded and refurbished the Peoria Zoo, formerly Glen Oak Zoo, at Glen Oak Park. Finished in 2009, the new zoo improvements more than triple the size of the zoo and feature a major African safari exhibit. Work had begun in the fall of 2006. In addition, The Peoria Playhouse — An Interactive Children's Museum, spearheaded by the Junior League of Peoria — is planned in conjunction with the zoo expansion and further enhancements to Glen Oak Park campus.
Peoria has hosted the Heart of Illinois Fair every year since 1949. The fair features livestock competitions, rides, concessions, motor contests, and concerts.
