Off the coast of Dubai, in the UAE, you have over 303 man made artificial islands which collectively are known as the Dubai Islands.

The Palm Dubai Islands

The three groups of islands are situated close to Jumeirah-the smallest one, Jebel Ali and a third and largest one at Deira. Each group of palm tree-shaped island happens to have a main trunk, 17 branches and a protective shielding circular ring surrounding the site. There are 990 feet bridges that connect the branches to the mainland. Two harbors are also are there to be able to commute on boats.

Around the branches of the palm tree on Palm Jebel Ali one will find a well-known Arabian verse inscription. The Palm is predestined to be like no other place on earth boasting of its extraordinary design and commodities: luxurious hotels, posh estates, exclusive water homes, water parks, marinas, spas, and amenities for relaxation and entertainment.

The construction idea of the islands, also known as the Palm, was officially pronounced in May 2002. A lot of people have been ruminating in disbelief of possibility of creating of something like that purely by mens’ hands. Some of us were considering this to become an eighth wonder of the world.

Due to its hugescale and unique shape, The Palm, Jumeirah and The Palm, Jebel Ali are visible from space with the naked eye. Each palm island adds 60 kilometres of shoreline to Dubai, increasing the UAE's beachfront by 166%. The Palm is made of approximately 100 million cubic metres of sand and rock.

If all the fill materials used to construct one Palm island were placed end to end, a wall two meters high and half a metre thick could circle our planet three times. When bringing in the sand, the constructors had to drop it first into place and pile it at a specific angle of repose, ensuring it will hold its place. After the dumping of sand, a dredger used to bring it to the level of the surface with a process called "rainbowing", which sprays the sand into proper position.

The Crescent surrounds are able to withstand a 4m wave and act as a breakwater. It is built from the bottom up, starting with the sand, then geotextile fiber, small rocks, and then medium sized rocks, when above the water.

The World Dubai Islands

The World Islands, sometimes referred to as the Palm World or Globe Islands, are a group of man-made islands shaped into the continents of the world, situated off the coast of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. “The World” is designed of 300 small private artificial islands divided into four types: private homes, estate homes, dream resorts, and community islands.

The AED 6.6 billion (US$ 1.8 billion) project covers a total area of 9 kilometers (5.4 miles) in length and 6 kilometers (3.6 miles) in width. The only means of transportation between the islands is by marine transport (from the umm Suqeim and Jumeirah fishing harbours) or air transport from the mainland.

Each island of The World ranges somewhat from 250 to 900 thousand square feet (23.2 to 83.6 thousand square meters) in size, with 50 to 100 metres (164 to 328 feet) of water between each island.

Each island embodies the different place on the globe like Paris, Cairo,Victoria, Nepal, New York, etc. All the continents are further broken up into several islands. You may say “The World Islands”is a replica of the world.

If you are a very wealthy person you can be one of those lucky ones who can own an island on this development, but besides being rich you’ll have to qualify various other criteria to own an island. After you pass all the criteria and become a happy proprietor of your own little world you can build your own dream home, customize the island to your own liking.

There is yet another group of islands of The World Dubai that is contributed exclusively to resorts so that one can enjoy the comfort of some of the most luxurious resorts in the world.
